What are the different styles of Handmade Area Carpets?

As the word describes itself in comparison to the computer, a handmade Carpet is made by hand and is of very high quality. Well-crafted handmade Carpets have many advantages over the variety made by machines. But not all handmade Carpets are the same and their consistency and prices vary greatly. And there are four basic styles of handmade Carpets: hand-knotted, hand-tufted, hand-loom, and flat-weave. Hooked, Soumak, Needlepoint and Chainstitched Carpets are other types of handmade Carpets. Handknotted or handwoven Carpets are the best of all handmade Carpets.

Hand-knotted Area Carpets

When you hear "Handknotted" it means that every single knot that composes the designs of a handknotted Carpet is tied by a professional weaver, so it requires a tremendous amount of labor and time to manufacture a handknotted Carpet. It also takes years for some handknotted Carpets to get complete. There are a wide variety of hand-knotted Carpets available to the customer, ranging from low-standard Carpets that use low-quality materials and dyes with a low knot count, to hand-knotted Carpets that use high-quality materials and dyes and have a high knot count on the other side.

Advantages of Hand-knotted Carpets

The importance, versatility, durability and elegance that fine handknotted carpets offer to their owners can not be matched by furnishings or decor. For generations, a good handknotted carpet can last, age beautifully, appreciate over time. They are actual works of art on which you lie, "To Walk On Luxury Art" is what you would claim.

Hand-Tufted Area Carpet

For a few reasons, this kind of handmade carpet is not as valuable as hand-knotted carpets. The first is that manufacturing takes less labor. Instead of hand tying every single knot, by pulling "V" shaped tufts by hand through warp threads, handtufted carpets are made. Alternatively, to create a pattern that we see, a method called Tufting Gun shoots the material through a cotton grid. By looking at the underside of the carpet, you can discern whether it is a handtufted carpet or hand knotted, because handtufted carpets have a piece of fabric covering the entire backside of the carpet, whereas you see the same pattern on the back as on the front of the carpet in handknotted. Handtufted can still provide your decor with very beautiful, interesting, and more affordable additions.

Hand-loom Area Carpets

The handloom is usually woven with a mounted warp on a vertical loom. Cotton yarn is most widely used for warping, while silk is often used as well. As it is cost-effective and readily available, cotton is preferred. It is a knots and wefts modification where the material is wrapped around the warps. The method of weaving is carried out in a horizontal line movement.

Flatweave Area Carpets

These are completely different kinds of carpets, while the handknotted handtufted and handloom have the typical carpet feel, almost like blankets, flatweave is much thinner. Used as prayer mats in some cultures, this type of carpet is vertically woven together as handloom carpets. With high carpets, they can be fine as home accents.
